Light up a Life 2021

Important update regarding our Light up a Life Services

With confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Plymouth rising above the UK average, plus current uncertainty around the likely impact of the new variant Omicron, we have sadly taken the decision to cancel our three Light up a Life remembrance services.

While we understand how disappointing this news will be for everyone who was looking forward to joining us at the services, and we are sad not to be alongside them in person, we feel it is the right thing to do in order to protect them and their families as well as our nurses, other staff and volunteers who take part.

However, whether your loved one was cared for by St Luke’s or not, we realise the need to join together and remember them this Christmas. So, there is still the opportunity to pay tribute to their friend or relative online as part of our Light up a Life appeal by dedicating a personalised online bauble. This is an opportunity to join with others also reflecting on cherished memories of their lost loved ones.

Last year’s Light up a Life enabled 51 patients and their families to be cared for at home. Therefore, the donations received are vital to guarantee the specialist care needed within your community, this festive season. By giving what you can to our Light up a Life appeal, you are dedicating a symbol of your love for those you’ve lost and also giving a memento of support to those in need in your community this festive season.

Make an Online Donation

This year, you can make an online donation, upload a photo of your loved one and dedicate a virtual bauble using our secure online platform ‘Visufund’ – a moving tribute which can be made publicly to others or kept private for yourself.

Thank you for your continued support.

Light up a Life kindly sponsored by Western Power Distribution

Light up a Life has been, once again, kindly sponsored by Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distribution network for the South West, Wales and the Midlands.

When you’re very ill and receiving St Luke’s specialist care at home, it’s so important to know there’s help at hand in the event of a power cut. This is even more vital if you’re reliant on medical equipment, such as an oxygen machine, that relies on electricity.

As most healthcare professionals will know, WPD provides a FREE Priority Register Service to ensure people who are elderly, very ill or disabled receive priority help when there’s a power cut.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll have the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ll receive advance warning of any planned interruptions to power. And – if there’s an unplanned power cut – a phone number on which you can get straight through, plus information updates as quickly as possible.
